Samsara
The Honored Dead Collection
The Honored Dead began here. Not with some elaborate plan or vision, but with a lost and forgotten fox kit on hard pavement.
Samsara was the catalyst for many things that continue to shape our own lives to this day. An experience that left us reeling and demanded more than we could imagine.
We found this fox kit on the roads of Kentucky, freshly hit, already gone. Without thought, we turned the car around and picked him up. We had no idea what we were doing, or the real reason why, though it became clear soon enough.
We had talked for months about picking up roadkill and learning to harvest the bones for our own artistic ventures. A daunting thought, one that we never initiated. Until Samsara found us.
Samsara refers to the repeating cycles of life, death, and rebirth. A fitting name for such a powerful moment.
After laying him on the soft grass and moss, we were lost on what to do next. So we just sat with him. We felt the overwhelming sadness demanding to be acknowledged. Soon, we began to see more. Forces were working around us, and through us, that we didn't quite understand, but the immensity was felt.
Flowers were picked from the gardens of a friend and laid with the kit. On a whim, a photograph was captured. A door to a vast new world was thrust open with that image, and we had no idea what awaited on the other side.
Samsara was the first animal we ever picked up off the road, the first animal we ever attempted to skin, the first of many. Fitting that the death of this beautiful creature was the birth of something powerful, something lasting.
Now you can own a piece of The Honored Dead's beginning.
Samsara asks you to wade in within thought of what awaits, but with trust that it will serve you well.
Are you opening that door?
